We are delighted that Ukrainian scientists, inspired by Czexpats in Science, are now mapping their global scientific community with their own Scientists’ Map.

Since the start of our project to aid Ukrainian scientists who arrived in the Czech Republic after February 2022, we’ve been collaborating closely with the Council of Young Scientists at the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and the Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora initiative. We’ve shared our community-building expertise and connected them with our IT specialists at Map of Scientists

We’re thrilled that our work inspired the Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora initiative to establish science communities abroad and create the Map of Scientists platform. We firmly believe that such networking initiatives can help retain talent in Ukraine and bring back the valuable international experience gained by scientists who temporarily left the country.

In these challenging times for Ukrainian science, we are proud to have played a part in lending our support. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Bakala Foundation for their unwavering help too!

Our commitment to Ukrainian scientists remains strong. In a recent productive meeting in September with Igor Lyman, co-founder of the Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora, and Volodymyr Volkovskiy, co-founder of the Czech-Ukrainian Scientific Society, at the Bakala Foundation, we discussed our ongoing collaboration. You can find more details about our discussion here and we are also very happy to share a nice feedback from Igor Lyman and Yevheniia Polishchuk:

With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Czexpats in Science themselves took the initiative to support Ukrainian scholars who fled to the Czech Republic. And then they began to willingly share their experience with the “Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora” initiative. Thanks to this, Czexpats in Science support of Ukrainian scientists is by no means limited to the borders of the Czech Republic. The experience of the Czechs is actively used both for the formation of communities of Ukrainian scholars outside Ukraine and for the creation of the web platform “Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora“.” (Yevheniia Polishchuk and Igor Lyman, co-founders of  the “Ukrainian Scientific Diaspora” initiative)
