Infoportal Hackaton event invitation

Build the Ultimate Resource for Global Scientists!

The Czexpats in Science Infoportal is set to become the definitive guide for globe-trotting researchers – a unique signpost for essential topics and insider tips, built by expat scientists, for expat scientists.

From daily hacks for life abroad, to securing research funding, and even understanding the ins and outs of Czech scientific institutions when considering returning – you’ll directly help colleagues who are wrestling with what lies ahead. Without your voice, the Infoportal simply won’t be as comprehensive or as helpful as it can be. Sharing those invaluable, unique experiences is something one won’t find anywhere else.

Come share your story and empower the next wave of travelling researchers!

What is the Czexpats in Science Infoportal?

The Infoportal will be a brand-new section of the Czexpats in Science website, designed to provide practical information for your entire journey as a scientist abroad – covering everything from preparing for your departure, through practicalities of life abroad, all the way to returning to Czechia or becoming an expact here.

The Infoportal will feature insights from both Czech expat researchers themselves and administrative and scientific experts within Czech institutions who have invaluable experience with grants and with navigating the administrative side of the scientific world. It’s set to be your go-to guide!

What to expect at the Infoportal Hackathon

We’re holding a Hackathon to kick-start this incredible resource. The goal is to generate as many answers to key questions as possible, as well as to come up with new questions to be answered, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow Czexpats in Science supporters in a dynamic, collaborative setting.

Who is this event for?

This event is for anyone who wants to and has time to contribute to the Czexpats in Science collective knowledge base.

Whether you’re a seasoned scientist nomad, someone considering working abroad, or simply interested in supporting the internationalisation of the Czech research environment, your input is incredibly valuable. If you know even a tiny bit of information about the (international) scientific environment, or are simply keen to gather and compile information, you’re welcome!

What’s expected of you?

We’d love for you to select a question you are interested in, then develop a concise answer for it, backed by sources for deeper information. Alternatively, feel free to propose your own question or topic relevant to scientists working abroad and build an answer around that!

If you prefer, you can also collaborate by contributing smaller insights to multiple answers or simply help others find resources.

You’re invited to:

  • Share your experiences: Bring your stories, insights, and practical tips from your life as a scientist abroad – what worked, what hasn’t, and what you’d have wanted to know before you went
  • Contribute ideas: Help us brainstorm and shape the key topics, categories, and functionalities of the Infoportal.
  • Engage in discussion: Connect with other researchers, share perspectives, and help identify common challenges and solutions.

Think of it as a collaborative workshop. Your voice is crucial in ensuring the Infoportal becomes a truly useful and relevant resource for the entire community of scientists working and living abroad. You are not expected to have all the answers, just a willingness to share and co-create.

Don’t worry, we’ll provide all the support and guidance you need every step of the way!

What if I feel like I don’t know anything?

No worries at all! We’d even welcome moral support. Everyone can contribute a little something. We can also make great use of general experience of the research environment. For many texts, specific personal knowledge isn’t necessary; it’s more about gathering and compiling publicly available information into one place.

What should I prepare?

You’ll need to bring your own laptop. While you’re welcome to simply turn up on the day and learn everything there, for those who like to prepare in advance, we’ll send instructions after you register, including example answers and a list of questions to work on.

Can I participate online?

Absolutely! We’ll send instructions to all registered online participants.

The date doesn’t suit me, but I’d still like to help. What should I do?

No problem! Please just fill out the registration form, and we’ll be in touch.
